In 1949 Ormig
started to produce mobile industrial cranes with fix boom
and really innovating solutions for those years.
The first model, "5tn", had 5 tonnes lifting
capacity and the boom was controlled by a rack.
The same design was used for the cranes having capacities
up to 23 tonnes, models familiarly called "Small
Elephant".
Towards the end of '50 years was introduced in the market
the mod. 75m which remains the most popular mobile yard
crane with a distribution of about 5000 pieces. |
|
It had 7.5 tonnes lifting capacity,
9-m-long boom and possibility of reaching 15 m lenght
with a lattice extension.
Such crane represented a great innovation considering
that the boom was not any more controlled by a rack;
as a matter of fact, the boom angle changement with
applied load was carried out in a continous way by means
of a winch fitted on the crane's frame.
This vehicle was very important for the industrial development
of those years being a reliable support to a lot of
workshops which were coming up.

The user requirements
were increasing and addressed to different handling operation;
therefore middle of '60 years saw the project of the "articulated
quadrilateral" - Ormig patent - a mechanism able
to keep constant the lifting radius when the boom angle
is changed. Such very new technical solution allowed to
handle the max load with perfectly horizontal boom and
heavy loads to be moved from internal stores to external
yards and on the contrary.
The most popular model was the 120i, 12 tonnes capacity
and 10 m boom; about 1000 pieces were manufactured.
The same design was applied for the production of cranes
ranging from 3 to 25 tonnes lifting capacity.
Towards middle of '70 years a new steering system was
designed giving a larger rear track; it assured a greater
stability with a longer boom offering improved operating
conditions. Just some years later a different boom lifting
set up came out; the cab was positionned sideway and an
increase in the stability was obtained. The crane height
became shorter giving reduced overall dimensions and a
wider visibility of the working area was offered.
Cranes having 10 and 35 tonnes capacity were made and
so forth to reach the present range. |
|
The same range is now available at
electric power, in order to comply with the regulations
in force concerning safety conditions in working places,
for acoustic operators protection and anti-pollution
so that the users requirements are widely met. |
